Improve standard of education in Durga Village, Karnataka, India
Harihareshwara Oriental Higher Primary School was established in 1940s in village of Durga, 3 Karkala Taluk, Karnataka, India, 574121. In last 6-8 years, the long serving government sponsored staffs has retired from service. Currently state government sponsors 1 teaching staff for 60 students (class 1 – 7).
This is a very high student to teacher ratio. Due to the staffing constraints, the quality has declined, hence the strength of students. The state government of Karnataka can sponsor more teacher only if the student enrollment is high enough. The goal of this project is to recruit two more teachers over a period of 5 years to increase the quality of education.
This in turn will lead to higher enrollment of students in near future. Along with this the new staff recruited will also focus towards extra curricular activities like sports and music. The project is sustainable since once the student enrollment increases, the state government will fund the staffing of the teacher. This first phase of this project will be targeted for one year only i.e. 2009-2010 academic year.
Total cost – 2600$
